The x86 targets are splitted into 4 directories, AFAIR
i386 for 32 bit,
ia64 for Intel IA-64 architecture (discontinued),
x86_64 for AMD 64 bit (now also Intel 64),
x86 contains common parts for all above (perhaps also relicts from 16 bit?)
