Ah yes, probably. I might have misunderstood the purpose of the fixes
branch, or if the RC has been released yet.

Agreed - one of the fixes I made to the register allocator was for a dangling
pointer bug that exists as far back as the git history - that's one thing that
definitely needs to be merged into the fixes branch:

Merging to the fixes branch should be under greater scrutiny than the trunk
though since we have to make sure it doesn't make things worse.
So another rc :)?
