Thank you for the tip, Peter. We tried .ai, but it was the same; and since we have a lot of graphics, we don't want to be saving them in .pdf.
I'm still curious why this happens, but for the practical matter at hand, we decided to use 0.21 pts for minimum line width in our graphics.
