All,
I was asked for a summary of what I did and why, so here it is: 1.) Right after I got the message about Adobe Updater still running, I went into Task Manager and looked for a task that would indicate the Adobe Updater that I could kill - something like this - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater5\AdobeUpdater.exe" but no such task was listed. 2.) I googled Adobe Updater still running and found t his - http://forums.adobe.com/message/2893395 - which indicated that a solution had been posted at <http://forums.adobe.com/message/2884467#2884467> http://forums.adobe.com/message/2884467#2884467 in a post by Pronil Sen Gupta; however, the post again indicated to look for the Updater.exe and kill that. 3.) I ultimately wound up killing these processes in task manager - acrotray.exe*32 and another task that I can't remember the exact name of, but it obviously was an Adobe task related to Adobe AIR. 4.) Opened Adobe Acrobat, selected help > check for updates and voila, I was now able to check for updates. Rather than downloading and installing 25 separate update files, a bundle is downloaded that updates the application in one fell swoop from your current version (mine was 9.2.0) to the most recent version (9.4.3); if for some reason this bundle is not downloaded, then just like FM updates, you might have several to carry out, but again, it will be much less than 25 individual updates. Just from googling this issue and perusing the Adobe Forums, I guess this can be a common problem - that Adobe Updater is stuck in a loop in a background, and you have to manually kill all adobe processes to be able to use the Help > Check for Updates function. Just purchased a new laptop and am in the throes of setting up my environment. I installed my legally purchased copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.0. After installation, the version is 9.2.0, and I want to make it current - 9.4.3. I go to Help > Check for Updates, and I immediately get a message that states that "Updater is already running." Say what? How can that be? The very first time that I opened Help > Check for Updates, I got this message, so . . . As a result, I cannot check for updates and bring my Acrobat version up to 9.4.3 unless I go to Adobe's site and download every single flippin' update for 9.0 that is out there in sequential order and install. That will take hours and is not feasible. How can I get this Help > Check for Updates function operational for my installation? Thanks!
