Hi Pattie,
The EDD entry (Ex: Image ;in all contexts; insert imported graphic file) is only valid for creating new content, that is when authoring and inserting an <image> element the dialog for choosing an image will open. To get the image the way you want, First identify the settings you need. In a 3 column lay out, presumed that it's one text frame with three columns and not three text frames, you only have two options: in column or across all columns. Framemaker won't let you choose just two columns. Note that this is the paragraph setting of the paragraph holding the anchored frame, not a setting of the image itself. The get the result: use a formatting rule on the image element in your EDD, that says: if attribute imagewidth is '2 column' or '3 column' set paragraph format to 'across all columns'; else use default. Another option to use is to set the Cropped option to not-cropped (can be set as default in the rules file), which will cause the image to not be cropped by the column border. Draw back is that it will probably overlap text in the other column, or won't fit on the page if a 3-column image appears in the second or third column. Those cases can be avoid by using extra settings on paragraphs, either preceeding or following the image. Remember that one thing yo can't do in FrameMaker (using the regular tools) is to force an image to start on either the First, second or third column of a page, so these options only work if a two or three column image always starts on a new page. To be honest, I'm afraid that only FrameScript can help you to get the result you need.
