IMHO *everything* in contrib should have a backing "port" which
is maintained in synch with the tree and also capable of overriding
the corresponding "package" from /usr/src.

I don't agree with David 100% about the timing or strategy but do
respect the results of his effort and believe that the outcome will
be good for FreeBSD.
