I agree with the intent to get new users information. I can make that change
easy enough.

That said, you raise an important design topic. I think we should seriously
look at fragmentation and duplication. Here are just a few URLs that have a
"newbie / getting started" feel:

1. Resources for Newbies: https://www.freebsd.org/projects/newbies/
2. About: https://www.freebsd.org/about/
3. Applications: https://www.freebsd.org/applications/
4. FAQ: https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/faq/
5. Handbook, Part I, Getting Started:
https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/parti/
6. Handbook, Chapter 1.3, About the FreeBSD Project:
https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/introduction/#history
7. Handbook, Chapter 1.2, Welcome to FreeBSD!:
https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/introduction/
8. Handbook, Chapter 1.2.1, What Can FreeBSD Do?:
https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/introduction/#os-overview

I'd suggest 1-4 go away as independent documents. They all seem to be
distractions from what they ultimately link to: the handbook. I'd cut out the
middleman.

Suggested replacements:
1. Resources for Newbies => 7. Welcome to FreeBSD!
2. About => 6. About the FreeBSD Project
3. Applications => 8. What Can FreeBSD Do?
4. FAQ => Remove and distibute content (mostly to the handbook)

Or something along those lines. Elimination of redundancy should be a design
principle in my opinion.
