No, I had not.  Thanks for the tip.

They have a number of build depends as well as run depends. My problem is that I already have Xorg 7.3 installed, so the software builds fine without requiring anything additional, and there's no documentation (that I can find) that tells you what software is required to build the package. But it looks like I should add those build and run depends to the Makefile for the port, right?

Also, I just discovered that only one of the kernel modules builds correctly. The other three fail. This is looking more complex than my meager skills can solve.
