Also to confirm, I'm using apcupsd with a USB cable, and didn't comment out the "device uhid # "Human Interface Devices" " out of my kernel.

Especially have a detailed look into the chapter describing the shutdown procedure. Sample files are installed in %%ETCDIR%%. These files must be copied and/or configured for a proper working apcupsd. You need to modify %%ETCDIR%%/apcupsd.conf as follows: For serial cable: DEVICE /dev/cuadX (or /dev/cuaaX for [45.]x) For USB cable: DEVICE (yes, leave it blank after DEVICE) NOTE that for USB cable you must comment out the line device uhid # "Human Interface Devices" in your kernel configuration file and recompile the kernel. Your keyboard and mouse will still work. WARNING USB support on FreeBSD is still considered BETA! Add apcupsd_enable=YES to your /etc/rc.conf[.local] to have apcupsd starting up at boot time. ********************************************************************** On Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 9:17 AM, Guido Falsi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > On Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 12:06:58PM -0400, Robert Huff wrote: > > > > Mike Stammer writes: > > > > > Last night i installed apcupsd and there was a post install message > > > mentioning to comment out the following in the kernel: > > > > > > device uhid # "Human Interface Devices" > > > > > > i do not think this is necessary anymore as I, in the process of > > > determining my first UPS was bad, tried a kernel both with and without > > > the line above commented out. > > > > > > I now have apcupsd running with the line above uncommented in my > > > kernel after exchanging my UPS for another one. > > > > > > The model UPS I am using is an APC BX900. > > > > > > Can the post install message be altered to remove the recommendation > > > to comment out the device shown above? > > > > _If_ this is true (not doubting, just saying it's a significant > > change and needs to be thoroughly tested), the APCUPSD authors need > > to know so they can make the change in the souce. > > Just to give my 2 cents, I can confirm the statement.
