This disk setup seems to me perfectly legal. Your vinum-partition has an offset of 1740535 which is != 0, that's all that I meant.

Yes, this looks quite ok. But I'm still not sure what is actually happening. Can you please describe me again what the configuration looks like after you have the problem (gvinum printconfig)? Do you run the latest -STABLE?
