I'm picking a random message to reply to... As we move forward with Hans Peter Selasky's usb stack, I think many of these issues will resolve themselves, or will be easier to resolve than in the current stack. Microsoft does like to have extensions to standards, and this is no different. There are some hacks for them in the kernel now, but, frankly, a better framework is needed to make it happen. This is one of the pros of the Selasky stack: it tries cleans up HID processing a lot. There's some weaknesses in that stack, but I believe it is slated to go into the tree along side the classic stack so that the issues can be worked out.
So it isn't that people don't want to solve the problems here, it just may take a little while for things to stabilize.
