Nacho,

that is caused by a recent update for java that broke freecol playing 
the intro movie,
check http://sourceforge.net/p/freecol/discussion/141201/thread/3982ec64/ .

it has been solved in the git version, but for 0.10.7 the only solution 
is to disable the intro .
try starting freecol from terminal like this :
freecol --no-intro

Since you're using an official *buntu package, you might want to 
register a bug so the maintainers can change the package.
