The FreeCol manual mostly documents what the FreeCol code does, and often
poorly.  Do not rely on it to work out what *should* be happening.  I
broadly agree with your points, but we need Col1-confirmation to be really
sure.

Quite so, however the REF has the "bombard" bonus.
