Colonization dos v3 is used to determine correct behavior, check the 2nd paragraph on the WW1CD page.
Since you have an original col you can use https://archive.org/details/COLV30_ZIP to update it to thuis version.
For those that have lost their original copy, gog.com still sells that same version for a low price.
