IMPORTANT! MINOR PARTY LAW AUTHORS ANNOUNCE PRESS CONFERENCE ON HB1142 Representative Paul Weissmann,
D-District 12, issued the following statement regarding BH 1142 today: “Senator [Ron] Tupa [D-District 18]
and I are hosting third party people for a press conference, Monday at 1:00 in
the third floor press room to discuss this bill in advance of its Tuesday
hearing. We were the original
sponsors of a bill in 1995 (when he was a Representative and I was a Senator)
that made it easier for third parties to make the ballot. This bill will roll those successful
efforts back. We need your help to
kill this bill. Paul Weissmann State Representative Representative Weissmann and Senator
Tupa were two of the primary authors and sponsors of the original Minor Party
Law and have been longstanding supporters of minor parties in Colorado, and
their opposition to HB1142 is greatly appreciated. The blatantly partisan nature of the Republican-only bill
makes it imperative that all other political parties—Democrat, Libertarian,
Green, Natural Law, and American Constitution—stand united to defeat this
rollback of political freedom, electoral choice, and the people’s voice. The Libertarian Party of Colorado,
along with the Colorado Coalition of Independent Parties, is extremely grateful
to Representative Weissmann and Senator Tupa for their continued support. We encourage the public and press to
attend and to defeat this Republican snow job effort. |
