I definitely agree with that ... I've had good luck with Sony drives
also.

I think older drives where in general built better and held alignmnet
better, also using a head cleaning diskette can help on either very low
use or high use drives.

If you are using DVD-R/CD-R media name brand media is best ... Kodak
makes some archival quality media that really good but a bit $$.

I use a good brand media (TDK personally) and make multiple copies at
medium burn rates and then do a CRC check on the files afterwards.  So
far my 5 year old CD-R disks are readable, though I should move the data
to DVD now that the disks are reasonable.

Storage is still an issue with CD-R & DVD-R ... temperature & humidity
can cause issues with the dye used in these disks.

CD-R was not a popular storage media in the '90s, and not financially attainable to
most user. Now, I prefer using the USB flash disk, but no driver for DOS user, I'm sure the sales will boost if manufactures are willing to release technical details of a USB DOS driver.
