I do not make rules regarding FreeDOS.

I did not say “it is not possible to remove something if only one person
requests it”

In the past, there have been many off list requests made to Jim and me for the
addition, removal or replacement of packages that are included with the OS.
Such changes should be discussed publicly on this mailing list and not in
private.

It is not any sort of rule which I made. However, I completely agree that is
the proper course of action regarding included packages.

So when I’m asked “off-list” about such changes, I simply reply that it needs
to be discussed here by the FreeDOS community before any changes such changes
are made.

Personally, I have very few opinions on the addition or removal of specific
packages. I do know that users tend to get upset when something is removed that
they use.

At present, we provide many programs that are probably not used by end users.
However, I think there are a sufficient number of users that benefit from
having at least some of those packages easily available for installation to
warrant their inclusion. It can be difficult for an inexperienced user to
locate some of those programs. It can also be difficult for them to get the
software onto their computer or into their virtual machine. But, that is simply
a convenience we provide.

As for zoo in particular, it is small and included on the larger installation
media. However, it is not installed automatically with either BASE or FULL. It
is simply on the media as a convenience for those who may need it.

Jerome
