I'm not that naive, but it seems pointless when Free operating systems
like GNU / Linux (and FreeDOS!) already existed. Heck, even shareware
is (usually) better than warez.

Last I heard, the Netherlands is lax on downloads (but not uploads),
so it's not necessarily "illegal" to download things. On a vaguely
similar note, I think (communist??) Poland in the '80s also had a lot
of "warez" scenes and shared software, probably due to blockades or
sanctions or whatever
