Don't get me wrong, I'd _love_ a FOSS DESQview/X. I was very impressed by that.

However, I recall a petition to Symantec to open-source it decades ago
and at that time, the company said it had lost any source code.

But GEOS is FOSS, it's pretty feature-complete, and it's a more
featureful DOS GUI than FreeGEM or ViewMax. It does include some
limited multitasking support, I believe. I tried the last released
version on FreeDOS 1.3 and it does launch and run on FreeDOS but it's
rather crashy for me.

If it were up to me, I'd try to see if it could be made a bit more
stable, and I'd drop GEM, Seal, Ozone and all the other shells and
file managers in FreeDOS and include GEOS instead.
