Part of the problem there was MS didn't have full copyright.
As such there is no prospect of the real thing in FreeDOS.
So I took the stipulated suggestion of DV/X _or_ Win3 to mean
_something broadly functionally equivalent_.
Something with:
[_] windowing, including of existing DOS apps;
[_] with a GUI;
[_] with some of its own apps;
[_] with the ability to run others;
[_] something with some form of multitasking on top of plain unmodified FreeDOS.
As far as I know, PC GEOS ticks all of those boxes. I know of nothing
else that does. GEM comes closest and at best it can tick 3 of them.
When mentioning DVX I meant also X Window as part of it.
And I said Win3.0 because there was a lot less to clone than 3.1 but did
mean actual Windows. Yes, I'm aware that it's a monster.
The issue with GEM as I understand is that a postprocessor needs to be run
after installing to adjust internal paths.
