I have a never-released program called KEYS2JOY which uses the keyboard to simulate a joystick. It doesn't have any documentation (yet), but I can send it if anybody is interested (and will include a brief description on how to use it). I've tested DOSDEF in in a few different VM's (with the aid of KEYS2JOY) and in some VM's it works OK and in others it crashes. I haven't tried it on real hardware. Some VMs also run way too fast, so you may need to use my SLOWDOWN program (or configure the VM speed if it allows that) to be able to play the game. There are very few programs I've come across that actually _require_ a joystick, but for those that do KEYS2JOY is an alternative. The keyboard is usually harder to use than a joystick would be, but can do in a pinch. At a minimum, it can be used for testing purposes. Trying to use a mouse in place of a joystick, while possible, would probably result in an unusable game. >> My recollection is this game runs in CGA, and QEMU doesn't correctly emulate >> all CGA video modes. (I get the same problem on QEMU.) No. It uses mode 13h, which is a standard VGA mode (320x200x256 colors). The low resolution (320x200) is reminiscent of CGA, but CGA couldn't do anything close to 256 colors. I would think all VMs would support VGA mode 13h, but maybe there are some that won't. _______________________________________________ Freedos-devel mailing list Freedos-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-devel
