Some websites claim that Windows 98 SE can be satisfied with DOS CD/DVD drivers and can use SATA controllers as long as they are in legacy mode which is more IDE compatible, so if I were you, I would just try UDVD2 with Win98 in config sys. > I just want to support CD's and honestly being able to boot from > CD is a work around for not having a real floppy controller. When you boot from CD, you can often use the ElTorito sys DOS CD/DVD driver. In that case, the BIOS will support the driver in providing access to the CD/DVD drive. This only works after booting from the CD which loads the driver during boot, though. If you just want to copy data to the Evoc, it is easier to use a normal CD driver for DOS and boot DOS or Win98 from the Evoc harddisk, without booting from CD, I would say. > I can replace MSDOS with FREEDOS as long as I realize there is an expanded > memory manager built into QSOFT and am careful to not conflict with it. You would have to be more specific about which problems you expect and what the memory manager is doing and how. > If UDVD2 could be ported to Windows 98SE, that would be very... Just load it as your CDROM driver in your Win98 config sys, it is possible that Win98 grudgingly accepts DOS CD drivers. Do not forget to load SHSUCDX or MSCDEX after UDVD2 :-) > IRQ 11 and I/O address D0000 32k reserved. In FreeDOS, you would either have to avoid EMM386 style drivers or make sure to exclude that area if you use them. This also affects UMBPCI: Exclude d0000 there, too.
