Thank you for the response Eric! I now have the program functioning, and it was
a JEMMEX error! Cnczeus needs EMS, and it will tell you so if you try to boot
without it, so disabling JEMM386 was not an option. Luckily, my problem was as
simple as a missing page frame, which I found by booting into safe mode, and
loading JEMM386 with verbose output. the virtual machine had filled the d
memory sector, (if sector is the right word) while the real hardware had
allocated that to system RAM. I have no clue what caused the difference, but
I'm glad I was able to find it. Going through with editing the fdconfig.sys
file was very daunting, but not incredibly hard. This has all been done in a
test version (T2408) from the link you sent me. Using that, LiveCD successfully
installed on my machine. Thank you! Jerome, thank you for the suggestions on
installation methods. The floppy install, which I tried on multiple sets of
disks, always failed loading the same file. I cannot remember what it was
called. I used rufus for making bootable USB drives, (not with the built in
FreeDOS tool, with a downloaded .iso) and while they would boot with plop, the
installation would always fail trying to partition the hard drive. After
rebooting, it would end up formatting itself, and then I would have to remake
the bootable USB stick, wondering what went wrong. In any case, I have the
software functioning, so I'm currently more inclined to run g code than to
reproduce bugs in FreeDOS. One more thing - I don't intend to make my posts one
giant slab of text, but my paragraph breaks are removed when viewing them in
the mailing list archive. Is there any way to remedy this? I am using an iCloud
mail client. Thank you both for the help!
