Normally reading from /dev/ipmi0? If by chance it's not using it, you can force it with "ipmi-sensors -D openipmi" could you get the debug output from ipmitool to show how it's getting the sensor reading? Perhaps there will be a clue. I think `ipmitool sdr -vvv get "Fan 1 Front Tach"` should get it.
