This has already been discussed here. I am opposed to the petition as written
because it gives manufactureres the option of producing a binary driver if
they consider the specs to be confidential. IMO, having binary drivers is
worse than no driver at all because it reduces the need for a maintainable
source driver. The spread of binary drivers in Linux will lead to a dramatic
reduction in quality and stability. Manufacturers should understand that the
Linux community expects source code for all critical code, especially kernel
code, such as device drivers.
Others may disagree, but be aware of what you are signing.
