Hi Kevin,
Would this be a good thing to do? I'm new to this group and
not yet had a chance to work with Bochs. I think for the sake
of open source for profit, it would be a good idea to hunt down
and talk with everyone at Red Hat. Tell them you want this to
work with their product. Bundle it with Red Hat and make it into
an development system for other Linux system. Once you sell your
code to someone else, I don't know. Do what ever it takes to keep
the license in your control.
Find a sponsor for making CD's. Win9x running Linux, Linux running
Win9x, Linux86 running DEC Alpha Linux, and so on. Post it on Linux
announce news groups. Write your own article for all the Linux
Magazines. SlashDot and LEAP included! Push it like Netscape's did.
Have the binaries ready to go and installable. E-mail Alan Cox and
John "Maddog" Hall too. I spend +$150 a year on Slackware
and Red Hat. If you had a CD, I would spend $25 a year for it.
Upgrades, Make Money! $35 one time, $25 for the next CD. Look
at CDROM.com. I know this is pushing it to the Max, but write
a mini book for the hard cover magazines, how to make Bochs work
for Linux. Have four or more articles, one for each month.
Right now it's an rumor, make it known it's real.
On the ReactOS list, everyone there is trying to use Bochs as an tool
for development. Linux running ReactOS. See, there is a need.
Just my 2 cents worth,
James
