I see your point at last! You want to go to a mapped file directly without
starting at the start page, basically. This is indeed problematic. And
you're right that there is no way to do this except to maintain along with
the key the map file which it is mapped with. Which basically means
sticking some information into the key. There's no other way to do it that
doesn't suck more (cookies, basically). I'm sorry it took me so long to
figure out what you were talking about.
Last time we talked about this, my solution was to create a new
psuedo-keytype. With a new keytype you can disambiguate between mapped and
non-mapped keys and you can store information about the mapfile in the key
without limiting what normal keys can look like. What do you think of this
idea? I didn't think all that much about it so it may have some problems.
