But we could have a "standard of packaging"!
As I told I have plans to package FreePM for Debian. For sure that means
that all dependencies have to be solved, i.e. all products FreePM
depends from have to be packaged. The advantage of Debian packaging
is:
apt-get install freepm
and the packaging system solves all dependencies and installs all necessary
packages with a minimum effort. Updates and security fixes where handled
by
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
This are three lines of code (for the purists: The last both can be done
via cron ;-) ) which save lots of work!
I have to admit that my time to work on FreePM packaging is limited and
I have other projects to solve for my real work. My intention is to have
a close look to the Debian packaging mechanism. Perhaps somebody could
do some packaging work. I'm offering personal help to do that or may
be the debian-mentors list is appropriate for questions regarding packaging.
It is not necessary to be a Debian developer to build packages - I would
gladly sponsor the efforts (see the Debian sponsoring program at
http://www.debian.org).

This would be avoided by Debian packages.

Ditto.

What about this: Does FreePM depend from Xron or does it not?
It would really speed up the Debian packaging if someone else would step
in. Moreover I'm really no Zope expert which would be helpful for sure.
So anybody is welcome to make installation and maintainance easier.
Kind regards
Andreas.
