We are using--and depend on--mysql's replication functionality. It
seems to work quite well. I know someone was working on implementing
stored procedures in mysql using perl, but I don't think it was ever put
into an official release.

Here's the official word:

http://www.mysql.com/products/mysql/

"Support for stored procedures was added in version 5.0, and support for
triggers will be added in version 5.1."

Cheers,

Mike
