Ok, found a workaround - only 64 bit mstsc crashes when it remote controls or gets remote controlled (from) a *freerdp session - so I force mstsc into its 32 bit mode using the method described in comment 4 on http://www.davidmoore.info/2009/12/02/running-32-bit-remote-desktop-conn ection-on-windows-64-bit/.

Second strange thing: Session created with-a 16 or -a 24 can be remote controlled from Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 and from another FreeRDP session. A session created with -a 32 can be remote controlled from Windows XP and FreeRDP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 both crash in mstscax.dll (0xC00000005 - access violation). Could anyone cross check this if this is only me or if this is a general problem and what are my possibilities (besides going to 16 bit color depth with is not an option)? I could open a support request with MS but I do not believe there would be helpful results besides "not supported"....
