I am finding that once the xfreerdp window has focus, the keybindings normally captured by my window manager are instead passed through to xfreerdp. Specifically, I have assigned a few keyboard shortcuts to cycle through my window manager's virtual desktops but this no longer works once xfreerdp has focus. In order for the window manager to regain control of these keybindings, I have to first use the mouse to defocus the xfreerdp window.
