Hi Luis,
The Raspberry Pi would be a good platform for this. We have a demo on it
currently and I've thought about mounting one in a microphone. We will
get around to implementing on lower-priced ARM processors, probably down
to $5. The main requirements are hardware floating point and the ability
to handle tables larger than 64K.
We also have an implementation for Android 4. It requires floating point
and that the phone be able to be a USB master for an external USB audio
dongle. I am testing a 24-bit dongle that costs USD$12.

There are AMers here in South America thinking about digital modes on
our 3.6 MHz carriers. Something like a box to connect between the
microphone and the transmitter audio input and, also, between the
receiver audio output and the earphone, making possible talking and
listening without all that bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz caused by todays
electrical interference. That is, an encoder/decoder small unit.
We made satisfatory experiences using windows and Linux running Codec
softwares, but the idea is an equipment "PC-free", because so our
old-old operators do not need to learn about computers.
