Just a minor thought from me, in that I don't think the repository
numbers should even be in the code. Put the version number in the
header, and the GUI can find it (for display).

People might be working on version 1.0 and 4000 revisions made before
release, but the revision numbers are not useful to the users. "I'm
running version 1.0 release" is enough information, as Version 1.1
will be a whole separate revision tree, and might even start with
repository revision 1, which is a copy of the completed revision 4751
of Version 1.0.
