The teensy is not really up to par with the discovery board. It's too
underpowered.
While the first runs at 48MHz and has "DSP instructions", the second runs
at 168MHz and has a Cortex-M4F core (supports floating point). The
datasheet of the Freescale part doesn't mention float support (so I can't
be sure it's a plain Cortex-M4 or a Cortex-M4F).

Besides, the discovery board does include built-in audio-out and a MEMS
microphone. While the MEMS mic isn't good according to some tests made by
people in this group, the 12-bit 7.2MSPs (in triple interleaved mode) ADC
of the STM32F4 seems enough to build a mid-quality mic.

Of course, pairing it to a Pi might nullify these considerations, due to
the Pi's higher (non-realtime) performance. Maybe using the Pi with the
codecs and the outer microcontroler with the modem might do the trick.
