Well guys, It's a pain being a System Integrator. I've loaded the second Pi with Fedora 30 armv7hl replaced the USB sound dongle UCA-202 as it could have been damaged by the lightning mentioned before.
Rebuild everything from source-code and I still get hangs when using the latest Codec2-dev library (from Github). 832034f9 4284 These hangs do not happen when using the library from Sourceforge SVN 4010. Re-compiled of course. I really don't want to complain of software bugs and that's the truth. The UCA-202 devices mentioned above are Stereo input whereas the C-Media devices are mono on the mic input. I know this shouldn't matter. Am I the only one testing the code on alternate hardware?? I wish I could help more, more detail on where problems are. NB: I've made no changes to the Codec2 libraries and my OS install was just "out of the box", then "update".
