Would it be acceptable to use an sqlite database within the games plugin?

I'm wanting to catalog data on a per-rom basis, using the roms CRC value as the identifier. Data cataloged would include Name, Country, Company, Year, Genre etc.

Eventually I would like to use this data to build the games submenus with (as soon as I find the least hackish way to go about it) so that you could have user defined menus. For instance if a user chose to sort his roms by Country, Genre, Year:

. . .
Nintendo Entertainment System -> main menu entry
   . . .
   USA -> virtual directory, all US roms sorted into this
       . . .
       Sports -> All US roms with genre SPORTS sorted into this
           . . .
1991 -> All US roms with genre SPORTS and year 1991 sorted into this
           1992 -> . . .
           . . .
       Roleplaying -> . . .
       . . .
   Japan -> . . .
   . . .
Gameboy Advance -> . . .
. . .
