I am not Dischi, but I would agree here. I find the pixel aspect ratio to be
much more clear than other ratios. The scaling then depends on known
parameters (window size, file frame size, file pixel aspect) and the output
pixel aspect in an easy to understand way.
Also, it is easy to support non-square pixels in the output device (with X11
and DDC, that's even possible to work out-of-the-box).
