I don't commit any changes except bug fixes to the rel-1-6 branch of
freevo. There will be a release of freevo-1.7.0 in the next couple of
weeks or so.

Having got the protocol stuff out of the way, this is a great idea it's
about time we dumped OSS and used something better to drive the audio.
There is a set of ALSA bindings for Python available, they may be cleaner
that spawing amixer, but I'm not sure.

Cheers,

I'd like to commit any enhancements or changes to the current SVN branch
however, it's taken forever for me to get a stable environment on a solid
platform. I've got a lot to re-learn as well. I'll do the forward
compatibility stuff later. Right now, I'll finish proof-of-concept and test it
out.

I'm not so sure I want to use the python-alsa bindings just yet. For one, I
haven't got them installed. Two, amixer is a VERY small app. I do see your
point though. I would get better feedback to the plugin by using the
python-alsa bindings. I wouldn't be spawning a new CPU process either. As I
stated, I need to finish proof-of-concept first and then worry with forward
compatibility and clean, fast code.
