Good question. Can someone start a survey on that? I would guess that
there are two setups in most cases:

1. Dedicated box with limited GPU power. An on-board Intel chip is the
mainly used. Some people have space to upgrade to a NVidia card, some
   have not.

2. Second-Head usage. In that case it is no problem to add a modern
card. I guess in most cases NVidia cards are already present since
they provide a good TV out.

And number 3 would be a G400 stand-alone box. Yes, the G400 provides the
best TV out as far as I can tell. You could update to a NVidia card and
replace the G400. It's not that much money, but I would prefer the G400,
too. Survey question: how many people use this setup? Coding question
for someone how has such a card some free time: how does clutter perform
on SDL?

You want to use the G400 output from mplayer and not the clutter
solution. This is possible with the Freevo 2.0 design, but not on my
todo list. Someone needs to write a video out solution bypassing our X
based kaa.popcorn player wrapper.

You van either have the overlay or G400 support. The overlay we use
depends on clutter and using clutter to render the video. If you do
that, you loose the cool G400 video output from mplayer and a NVidia
card would look as good.

Freevo 2.0 is not yet ready :)

22'' 16:10 LCD: around 200 EUR
A _good_ 37'' TFT TV: around 600 EUR

Not 10x the cost, "only" 3x the cost for a larger view.

I don't want to cut off old hardware, but we are only two developers. We
have to draw a line somewhere to release Freevo 2.0 at some time.

Give me the man-power to do so and I'm happy to provide it. :)
