You don't actualy have to use xine to play dvd's in 1.3.4 its somewhat hidden aways in the main confing file, but you can actualy use Mplayer to play them, But first you need to try in your shell.. Mplayer -dvd (with a dvd in the drive), if it works let me know and I will tell you what to hash(#) out to get it working.
I found that xine would never seem to work, but mplayer works perfect even with encrypted disks.
