I did a cvs checkout and copied it to runtime/lib/python-2.3/site-packages/mmpython and all seems happy now :-)

I don't believe that is correct in this users case. If you are running freevo cvs straight out of a cvs checkout:

$ cvs co freevo
$ cd freevo
$ ./freevo -fs

Then you don't need to mess with runtime/ or move files around.
Anything installed to the python system lib hierarchy will be discovered
by freevo.  I don't use the runtime freevo so you may be correct in that
all deps need to be resolved there.
