Bummer.. I guess there is no such thing as the perfect HTPC video card then. At this point I'm actually considering using an external signal converter, but I have a nagging suspicion that the end result will be just as bad as the builtin TV chip on my 440MX.

Thanks anyway.

Correct the G450 does not show up on the TV until about midpoint in the

Subject: [Freevo-users] Question to the Matrox owners out there

I may be purchasing a G450 soon, but before I do I want to make sure that it won't turn out to be a lemon. The freevo system is not quite a dedicated box; there's a dual boot to windows XP, plus I need to be able to revert to previous kernel version occasionally. It's very important, therefore, to be able to see the POST screen and grub menu, but looking at what other people are posting, the Matrox TV-out seems to be a software-activated thing and thus not present during boot. If so this may very well be a showstopper to me for the mentioned reasons; there isn't and will never be a monitor in my living room so the TV is the only display I intend to use with it.

On a related note, I do have an old G200 lying about which I originally intended to use, but would you believe that they'd gone and changed the physical layout of the AGP slot at some point? ;) I guess I wasn't paying enough attention hehe but anyway from 4x or 8x on, the cutout in the PCB seems to be swapped from front to back and so old 1x cards no longer fit in the AGP slot of my XPC.. I don't suppose there's anything to be done about this? 8)

Regards,
Ole Andre
