Now that Freevo is using mevas (in CVS) for its graphics and display it will be easier to do DirectFB and other displays such as dxr3, dvb (tv-out on full featured cards), and ivtv (pvr-350 tv-out). In fact, Jason already wrote mevas code to support ivtv, is is jus a matter of a few simple hooks inside Freevo.

So Freevo is switching to mevas? Does this mean that it will be bound to mplayer from now on (not that I would mind much, except for the DVD-menu stuff from xine )?

So, starting this week (in code planning stage now) I am writing native DirectFB support for mevas, and therefore, Freevo. I want viewing Freevo over DirectFB to feel right, including no more "squigly lines shit" when starting a video. :)

This sounds awesome! This would really make the Freevo experience on Matrox DirectFB much smoother...

Go, Rob, go :-)

P.S.: Another thing that would greatly improve the freevo experience, IMHO: did anyone ever think about using gstreamer for a built-in python music player? This should wipe the little annoyances with the current mplayer/xine-plugin based player: metainformation (Artist, Album,...) should always be present and also the track length should be displayed correctly even for less common formats (monkeys audio, musepack, ...)
