Have you checked out the man page for mplayer?
-monitoraspect <ratio> (also see -aspect)
Set the aspect ratio of your monitor or TV screen.
EXAMPLE:
-monitoraspect 4:3 or 1.3333
-monitoraspect 16:9 or 1.7777
