I do have that section set in freevo.conf (geometry = 1920x1080) but I
found that mplayer still had a problem with the aspect ratio, which
was not resolved until I changed the  monitoraspect=16:9 setting in
.mplayer/config

Out of curiosity, what was the geometry set to before you changed it?
