Gang-
  As total second point, do not expect an -rc release to work
perfectly ther is a reason it is an -rc release. It should work but
may not. I really recommend staying with the stable releases if you
just want a working system. The difference between 1.7.6 and 1.8 are
to small for the hassle of getting 1.8-rc* on a "production" system
working right. On the other hand if you want to help test and debug go
for it.
