I run ivtvctl --set-ctrl=volume=65500 > /dev/null 2>&1 & from a startup 
script as I find the audio level on my ivtv to low otherwise. You might 
be able to find a setting that will help. I know the ivtv driver first 
tires a stereo channel and if it can't get that will try drop back to 
mono, this can be an issue if the frequency is out even slightly (as it 
is for BBC2 on my cable operator). There was a bug with the stereo/mono 
detection in some versions of the ivtv driver, maybe you've got a 
similar bug. Might be worth trying a different driver version.
