FreeWRT does not start telnetd at bootup. In make menuconfig you can
change the default password "FreeWRT" to something else or use
public key authentication. Please use the username "admin" for ssh
login.

The Asus WL500g Premium device does not automatically reboot after
flashing. It is important that you at least wait 5 minutes after
putting the image via tftp to the device, before you disconnect the
system. After that it should bootup and you can ping the device.

It depends on the root filesystem you have choosen, if you need to
wait for another automatic reboot or not. The device needs at least
3-4 minutes to generate the ssh hostkeys on the first (production)
or second (developemnt) boot.

So you just need to wait. SSH is open on WAN and LAN ports.

Openssh as replacement for dropear is not well tested at the moment.

OpenWrt people haven't added Asus headers, yet.
