on my FreeWRT-DSL-router I have the following packages installed:

kmod-ppp
kmod-pppoe
ppp
ppp-mod-pppoe
pppoe-client

I am not sure if each of them is required. I used the WIB and was not
completely sure what I needed to activate. Also I don't remember what
exactly I chose. But the result are these kernel-modules:

ppp_async 8508 0 (unused)
pppoe 9800 1
pppox 1420 1 [pppoe]
ppp_generic 24308 3 [ppp_async pppoe pppox]
slhc 6704 0 [ppp_generic]

HTH,
rob
