Hi,

I'm posting to this list as there seems to be a little more experiences
with freewrt on using HSDPA cards like my Merlin XU870 on the WRT54G3G
(well, at least cards that are known to work are mentioned in your
router details web page....).

I am currently using the original firmware WRT54G3G_2.00.22_ETSI_code
which is working fine but the fact that for some reason clients
connecting via LAN ports get a downstream of about 2200kbits and the
same clients connecting via WLAN only get a downstream of 1100kbits.
Turning off WLAN encryption seems to increase the downstream a little
bit (~100kbits). The WLAN connection quality was of course perfect
@54mbits.

So i tried the latest OpenWRT whiterussian build. After some initial
troubles I got my setup working here, too. Unfortunately, the downstream
is limited in this setup to exactly 460kbits for some unknown reason. I
can verify that the pppd is actually making a HSDPA 3.6 connection.
Also, I tried a patched usbserial module that has had some increased
buffer sizes. To be very sure, I sniffed the windows serial
communication to the card to be able to reproduce the same sequence via
chat/pppd on the WRT54G3G but without any effect.

BTW, I'm connecting to the German vodafone.de network. On windows using
their dashboard, my bandwith limits seem to be at about 2200kbits
downstream and 360kbits upstream.

The question now is...since FreeWRT is based upon OpenWRT, how likely is
it that I would encounter the same problems ?
Does any of you guys have some experiences on running usbserial based
HSDPA cards like the Merlin XU870 ?
Would there be a way of getting the original Linksys firmware source and
figure out what it is doing differently ?

Thanks,
Watz
